Good morning all,

A new week is upon us, as well as the end of the month. Lets try to make this week and this month better then the last.

Id like to say ‘Congratulations’ to the Lyford family of Nixa, Missouri. The are the winners of the raffle for a 2 day hog hunt with me in Oklahoma. They bought the winning raffle ticket in a fundraiser that The Arc of the Ozarks , www.thearcoftheozarks.org , was having to purchase a new wheelchair accessible van. The raffle was part of there Hunt/Fish Swap Expo.

A lot of new and exciting news happening for me and ‘Team’ Missouri Safari. Look for details to be posted soon.

The upcoming fall hunting season is shaping up fast. With plenty of personal hunts, as well as several guided hunts already being scheduled and booked.

Enjoy …

Good morning all and ‘Happy Friday’. We have made it through the week. I hope everybody has a fun filled and safe weekend.

This would be a good weekend to get out with the kids and do some shed hunting. Its always special to spend time in the outdoors with those you care about.

I will be busy this weekend with the Hunt/Fish & Swap meet taking place at Arc of the Ozarks in Springfield. If you get a chance, stop in. Bring the whole family as there will be plenty to see and do. With over 60 vendors on hand selling plenty of outdoors gear from watersports, fishing, hunting and camping. Details can be found on there website www.thearcoftheozarks.org .

The first round of sponsorship letters/packages went out yesterday for Missouri Safari. We’ve had a lot of interest and are working on details for spring season as well as fall.

Be watching for updates coming soon on another new venture...

I have teamed up with a couple close friends out of Oklahoma. We have secured the hunting rights to 2000+ acres of prime whitetail, turkey, and hog hunting locations. These will all be offered as fair chase hunts. Food plots have been in place as well as feeders and mineral sights. Stand and blind placement are being considered now and mineral sights are being refreshed. More details to follow as they arise, including website with pic’s and info.

Good morning all,

I hope everybody's week is progressing along satisfactorily. I've been busy working out details for the upcoming season. As well as a lot to do with other ventures.

Quick update…

Yesterday I did an interview on KOLR 10 news for The Arc of the Ozarks and there upcoming event this weekend.

I also attended a local chapter meeting for Ducks Unlimited.

I found out that we had an outfitter donate 2 youth turkey hunts to Kids Fishing for a Cure for our Fall event.

I'm working on getting paperwork together for the first round of the sponsorship drive for Missouri Safari.

Also, a new mailbox was secured and a new email address was set up for use  ( missourisafari@aol.com ).

If your out and about this weekend in the Springfield area, be sure to stop in at the Hunt/Fish Swap at the Arc of the Ozarks. It is sure to be a good time for the whole family. Hope to see you there.

Congratulations to the new young up-n-coming star of Nascar , Trevor Bayne , for his victory in Daytona. Its nice to see fresh talent joining the ranks of veteran super stars.

A new email address has been set up for the ‘Team’ of Missouri Safari , missourisafari@aol.com . It will make it easier for sponsors and fans alike to remain in better contact with the Team for questions, suggestions, comments, etc. Soon we will have a postal address as well to update.

As the NWTF convention is ending in Nashville, it has put a spark in everyone's eye for spring turkey season. The season is fast approaching and opens in many states the middle to end of March. Now is the time to start practicing with your gun or bow if you haven't already. Especially if you have changed broad heads or have switched your choke tube.

Enjoy all …

Expo’s , Banquets , Shows ….

Its that time of year folks when the events start to flourish. Now is a good time to consider helping out your local chapters or even support the cause by attending a banquet. By showing support in this fashion, it not only helps the local chapters but also the ‘big picture’ cause. The NWTF is really stepping up this time of year with spring season fast approaching. Soon to follow will be the RMEF and others as the big game season rolls upon us.

The banquets are a good time as you can make a lot of new friends that share the same passion as you. As well as a good night out for the family to enjoy with a chance to participate and win prizes in raffles, auctions, and door prizes.

Remember, without some of these organizations, we wouldn’t enjoy a lot of the things we do today. From the elevated success in herd management to the protected land a lot of us depend upon to hunt. At the same time we are passing on good ethics and protecting a way of life for our young to partake in and remember for years to come. Some of the best memories your children or spouse will have can come from time spent in the fields or the woods together. Or even on a local lake at a public fishing area.

Spring is in the air , It seems like the weather has takin’ a turn for the better across the country. With a nation wide thaw takin’ ahold of the woods, now is the time to get ready for spring plantin’. You should have had a chance to be out shed hunting already, if not , get to it.

While in the woods , take a look around and try to find those ideal spot for stand placement. Be sure to pay close attention to travel lanes, bedding areas, water sources, existing food. Think of where you seen the concentration of deer movement this past season. Then weigh in your mind the idea of manipulating there movement. What can you offer the deer that they don’t have, something to peak there interest. It may be as simple as a mineral block ( now is a good time to add one to your arsenal. Between lactating does and vitamin starved bucks ) added to your hunting land. Helping does produce milk and bucks to regain vitamins/minerals needed for future antler growth. Even a simple plot of clover, alfalfa, or brassica. There are a lot of individual seed packs available on the shelves. As well as many pre mixed assortments. Many of which you don’t need hundreds of acres or thousands of dollars worth of equipment. A lot of times the best plot you can plant you can accomplish with nothing more then a rake and some fertilizer. A lot of todays seeds simply just need to be spread on open ground. Put a little effort into raking them in the ground a bit and your done.

Try to put a mineral block or spot out for every 25 acres you are trying to manage. Also try to include something different for the herd to eat. Kind of like a treat for them.

With all that in mind, you should see an increase in herd health over a couple years as well as better antler growth. Along with a chance to improve your odds in the woods this season. Good luck and happy hunting….

Welcome to the neighborhood, Id like to invite you all to take a look at one of my favorite stops in North Carolina ( Orchard Hills Golf Course ) when I’m in town.

Located in Granite Falls, it is a very short drive to the water sports on Hickory Lake, as well as the down to earth home style comfort found in the Boone and Blowing Rock area from days of the past. Be sure to keep an eye on the Facebook page for daily specials.

Take to the woods folks ,
the seasons are ending across the country and that leaves us little to no time in the woods. Now is a good time to think about a possible hog hunt this spring to keep us in tune with our shooting skills. As well as hone new ones. A short trip to the woods with the kids in search of some squirrell hunting helps hone the shooting skills too.
Now is the time to take to the woods shed hunting. Looking for those racks you didn't manage to put on the wall during season. Pay close attention along trails, fence lines where deer cross, and in the thick bedding areas. Now is also the time to start making your list ... think of the things you would have liked to have had, or the things you needed on this years ventures. Be it a new blind, maybe some new waterproof boots, a thermacell, whatever it was .... now you have the time to plan and look for sales throughout the year. Don't wait until the last minute and have to scramble.
Now is also the time to get the scatter gun out and start preparing for spring thunder chicken. Put a few rounds through it to familiarize yourself with it again and the pattern.
Enjoy folks, and don't be afraid to be the only one at the range, or the only one shooting your bow in the backyard. What seems weird now or out of place ... will make you the 'talk of the town' come opening day. practice , practice , practice ... and if possible , try practicing in the clothes you will be wearing during hunting season ( especially gloves ), or out of a tree stand shooting at different angles for you bow hunters ( try sitting while coming to full draw versus standing ). Ive always made it a rule to have my bow weight set a tad bit light so I am able to come to full draw while sitting or kneeling. Try it , you may be surprised.
These are my words of wisdom folks , not for sale and not worth the $ I could offer them for on the Internet.

Good morning to all and happy monday.

Im sure by now we all know the Green Bay Packers are the Super Bowl winners. I didn’t have a favorite of the two , but it was good to see the Steelers rally at the end.

The new week is upon us as is work. Whatever comes your way this week , I wish you the best.

Plans are still being worked out for a buffalo hunt in March at www.sss-ranch.com , opening week turkey hunt in April at www.sandrockhillshunting.com . As well I have been working on plans for this coming fall big game season. Hunts to include a fair chase whitetail hunt courtesy of Mike at Sand Rock Hills , and a trip out west to either Washington or Colorado to hunt private land. The later of the two is courtesy of a good friend Brett Grimm with www.heartlandhunters.com . I do have a couple hog hunts coming up this year that are being raffled off through different organizations. Details on them will be released as soon as a winner is determined in each. One of those hunts will be taking place at www.nomercyhunting.com .
