Home Sweet Home ,

Me and my son made it home to Missouri from Oklahoma this evening . My hunters departed this morning to return to Illinois . Me and my boy hunted the morning hours in search of his first pig . We managed to get on quite a few but he was only able to get one shot off . Unfortunately he missed .

I couldn’t bring myself to shoot with him missing . The point was for him to get the groceries this trip . He’s in good spirits though and ready to take to the woods again already .

My two Illinois hunters bagged a total of 4 pigs , weighing in at 530 pounds in all . They averaged two a day and were happy . It was a first for them and a fun experience .

I am unpacking and getting gear ready for some archery whitetail hunting here in Missouri this weekend . I have to get in what I can before the end of season the 15th of January .

Another successful day here at Sand Rock Hills Hunting .

Mike and Brad had a good run this morning in putting down 2 more wild hogs .

Me and my boy had a few chances at pigs but my son couldn’t ever get squared away to get a shot off . As the hunters depart in the morning , Me and my son will be back after it for a morning hunt before heading home . I had a few shot opportunities today , but this hunt wasn’t about me . I was hoping for my son to get his first pig . We’ll keep our fingers crossed that tomorrow morning proves to be his lucky moment .

Upon returning home , Ill be back in the woods for the last couple weeks of our archery deer season in Missouri . Im still hoping for a shot on my 8 with my bow .

Hey all , ‘Good Evening’ ,

Well we got pigs on the ground today . Actually ‘A’ pig . One of my hunters put down a 160# Boar , the second hunter shot a sow . We looked for over 3 hours for the sow before loosing blood . We seen her later running with a pack of pigs along the creek bed . We’ll be after her first thing in the morning to put her down .

My son hasn’t had a chance to shoot yet . Weve been busy try’n to get my hunters on hogs . My boy is a trooper though . He’s stick’n with it and help’n out from spotting to cleaning .

Afternoon all ,

We’ll me and my son made the trip to Sand Rock Hills Hunting in Oklahoma today . We arrived around lunch time . After we made a short stop at the Bass Pro Shop in Oklahoma City . My hunters just arrived a bit ago and are getting settled in now .

We will be over here guiding this week and doing a little hunting of our own . Were hoping for the best in my son getting his first kill on a pig while were here .

We will be in the woods at first light tomorrow .

The weather should be decent for the rest of the week so that shouldn’t pose a problem for us . Ive already seen quite a few pigs running this afternoon .

A time to reflect on those we have had the honor to be apart of our lives . Every thing we do today is history tomorrow . Some day , in some way, shape or form , somebody will reflect back upon our actions . Be it a sibling , a neighbor , or somebody you pass in the local grocery store .

I want you all to think about that over this holiday season . Say ‘Hello , Merry Christmas’ to a stranger , open the door for somebody at the local market , smile for no reason as you walk through the crowded stores . Make a positive impression on somebody . Leave a positive footprint of yourself .

In doing this , not only will you make somebody else a happy person for a moment , but you have just made history .

We are finishing up the last of our Dentist and Doctors appointments today before the Holiday . We will then be able to relax and enjoy as the kids are engulfed in the Christmas spirit .

Shortly there after , on the 26th , me and my son will be heading out to Oklahoma for a few days of fair chase hog hunting . Should prove to be a good time with friends as well as family .

Hey everybody ,

I hope your week is going well so far . Im sure things are hectic with the Christmas Holiday fast approaching . We are catching up on last minute details around here , as well as taking care of doctor and dentist appointments while were all off work and school .

I havent had any luck in the woods since the opener of muzzleloader season here in Missouri . The deer sightings have been scarce as the camera shows most of the movement being at night .

I am glad to see this big boy has made it this far . He is one of two good 8’s I have hang’n around the property . The second is not as wide or tall . I havent seen the big 10 again since I missed the shot on him during rifle season . It just shows that with proper deer management , you can control your deer herd . All the pic’s I post come off our property that I have been managing for the last 3-4 years . Im lucky in the fact that the surrounding land is very seldom hunted and I have implemented proper herd management .

Maybe this guy or one of the other shooter bucks will slip while Im hang’n out in my tree stand . If not , they’ll hopefully make the rest of season and the winter to give me a chance next year .

I spent the morning in the woods for our opening day of muzzleloader season . I didn’t even see a deer today . I did see about two dozen turkey . Not that I could do anything about it .

Hopefully tomorrow will be better . I had to cut my hunting short today as we have a full schedule with the kids . Between birthday parties and Cub Scouts events , we’ll be wore out by dinner .

Afternoon all , its Hump Day , and we've almost got it whipped .

I'm super excited today and getting ready for the Missouri season opener of muzzleloader season this Saturday . As well , the plans have been made and the ground work done … I'm taking my son with me to Oklahoma the 26th of this month for a few days of fair chase hog hunting . We’ll be hunting southwestern Oklahoma on state land .

It will be good to see my ol’ friend Mike Strickland ( ranch manager for Sand Rock Hills Hunting ) . We try to get together a couple times a year to hunt together . Be it for deer , turkey or hogs , were always ready to spend some time afield together .

Were doin well here . Spent the weekend with my family relax’n . Got the bbq goin now while the weather is nice .

Had a few pic’s on the camera from the property . Movement show’s middle of the night movement and late morning . I havent done a lot of hunting lately , work’n on details for our upcoming muzzle loading season . It starts the 17th , and runs through the 27th . Ill be leaving the 26th for a short hunting trip to Oklahoma on a hog hunt with a previous contest winner .

I went to the property earlier to take a look around . Going through trail cam pic’s now . Thought this pic was kinda cool , this was the day after our snow this past week .

What a day …

I decided to take a break from the new ‘smart’ phone and do something constructive , like sharing with my friends .

I picked up the new hats and beanie’s today . I posted a pic on both my Facebook pages . Should have them online in the website store soon . I also picked out and approved 2 new designs for ball caps . I think everybody will be pleased with them . All embroidered , 1 black with camo (Mossy Oak) of course , and 1 all black with silver embroidered barbwire . The logo will be in different locations on both .

I also picked up my new phone today . I went with the Motorola Admiral versus the Samsung Galaxy . The Admiral is more in line with what I am used too , not crazy on the 100% touch screen . Plus , it is also a little more rugged to endure the elements . We all know what kind of ‘elements’ we encounter in the woods . lol

Updates have been made to the Heartland Hunters website , more to come . There is some wording that needs to be changed and a few more updates for the announcement of my Pro Staff position .

I am taking to the woods in the morning with a friend hunting down south around the Branson area . We have been asked to help with the current deer population around the Branson Airport area . It’s a doe only hunt , but Ill take the groceries and any chance to hunt . Especially when it can be done with friends or family .

Wednesday afternoon and I am busy ,

Tomorrow I pick up a new style of hats / beanies for the website store , as well as choose a couple new designs for future use . Ill post pic’s after I pic them up .

I've got a bit of hunting left to do before the end of the year .

As it stands now ,

I will be archery hunting here in Missouri ,

I have a friend from Oklahoma coming over to hunt part of our muzzle loader season with me later this month on our property ,

I have a trip planned between Christmas and New Years to Oklahoma to do some hog hunting with a prior hunt winner . I may be taking my son with me on this hunt . I will be hunting both archery / rifle , he will be hunting with a slug gun .

If all else goes as planned , I will be returning to work shortly after the New Year in an attempt to stay busy until spring turkey season . At that point I will start my season in Oklahoma , return to hunt Missouri , then its up in the air .

I am working out details for a couple other surprise hunts between now and then . One in New Mexico , the other back in Oklahoma at a new outfitter . Ill announce game species when details are worked out , I don’t think anybody will be disappointed .

What a Tuesday ,

Awoke this morning to find Mother Nature had delivered our first snow of the season . Not a lot , but enough to mess up traffic pretty good .

I wish I could have been in the woods today , would have been a good day to be bow hunting .

Another Monday has come and gone …

Hopefully everybody set a good pace for the week today . This leaves us with 19 and a wake up till Christmas .

The weather here has turned cold and winter has set in .

I got a call today and the beanies are in . I will pick them up this week and post pic’s . I have to look at and approve a few new styles of hats for the Spur Chaser logo to be embroidered on . Be looking for the new styles soon .

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend . My wife had drill this weekend with the National Guard so I had the kids . Today while I hunted , they attended the Family Day festivities and Christmas party .

I spent the majority of the day in the woods hunting . I managed to relocate my trail cam to try and get some recent pictures before Muzzle Loader season . I positioned it just off a known deer trail and along a active rub line . I have several good size bucks on the property and want to narrow down which one is working the rub line .

I don’t plan on pulling the card or doing anymore hunting until next weekend . I have a busy schedule this week taking care of business for the website and some new ventures .

Get your rest folks and be prepared to start the new week in the morning .

Our temps have fallin and we have snow in the forecast . We’ll see what the week brings .

Today is December the 1st , I guess now we can official start the countdown to the 25 days of Christmas …

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday over with , it still does not seem much like the holidays . I'm sure as time progresses , it will turn around .

I picked up an order of shirt / hoodies yesterday for an upcoming contest on the Facebook page , as well as to have extra product for the web store .

Today I will be picking up more decals as well to have on hand . Not only for the website / contest’s , but I am attaining more decals for the buggy .

I have some new hats / hoodies arriving next week ( with and without embroidery ) . I will post pic’s as they become available .

The new phone has been ordered , I decided on the Samsung Galaxy S II , Epic 4G Touch from Sprint . I'm not real crazy on the whole touch screen thing , but in an effort to stay on the top of my game on my Social Media sites , the phone should help .

I've been busy lately working on travel plans and hotel reservations for some of the upcoming trade shows and expo’s . I have made reservations and am planning on attending the NWTF convention at the Opry Gaylord in Nashville this coming February . I am also working on plans to attend the A.T.A. show in Columbus , Ohio in January .

I hope to see some of you there and meet some new friends .

Harrison with Antler Freaks TV took his first Mule Deer in the great state of Texas . Very respectable buck . Also , my good friend Adam Gill from Illinois took his first elk in Colorado . A very nice 6x6 .

Spent the last few hours in the woods hangin’ out in my favorite Gorilla tree stand . Deer were movin early today before daybreak . Didn’t see anything after shootin light .

The weather has turned and it is raining now . We have rain and cooler temps coming in today with possible flurries later .

I might get out to do a little more bow hunting in the next week or two before our muzzle loader season begins the 17th of December . I have some ground work to do before then to get ready for my ground set .

As the sun shines on another blessed day for me in the outdoors industry , I am proud to announce that I have been offered , and accepted a Pro Staff position for Heartland Hunters , www.heartlandhunters.com .

Over the years I have tried to bring the best experiences , information , and opinions to you all . I have strived to progress in my knowledge of the outdoors as well as catapult myself within the industry . Which is not always an easy task .

It seems that the outdoors industry has become very competitive and a lot of folks have forgotten what the real spirit of the outdoors is . Its not always about competition and who has a bigger buck , moose , bear , or other game animal than the next guy .

Over the years we have seen a lot of progression . As a lot of women have entered the ranks as great hunters , writers and general outdoorsman . A lot of new law’s have been passed in our favor , as well as some bad ones stopped . By working together , we have managed to secure more hunting lands for our youth to enjoy for generations to come .

I am proud to be part of such a great industry , and have the support of so many great people .

I look forward to 2012 as it quickly approaches , with a lot of great news to come yet and experiences to share .

Spent the last day of Missouri Rifle Season in the woods hunting with a friend this morning . The deer have been few and far between the last few days . we managed to get wet today as we did yesterday in the rain . Tomorrow bow season returns , as do I to the woods with my recurve in hand . Ill be concentrating on hunting the travel lanes from the ground wearing my ghillee suit . With any luck , Ill succeed in taking down my buck in a fair chase manner on his ground , toe to toe .

Congrat’s goes out to Tony Stewart and the Team at Stewart/Haas racing . Tony ran a good race yesterday in Homestead and pulled off not only the win , but the Sprint Cup Championship as well .

I spent this morning in the woods again . Only seen one doe that I jumped while walking out . Tomorrow is our last day of rifle season here in Missouri . If you havent gotten a deer yet , don’t throw your tags away  ….  You can always use them during muzzle loader season .

Ill be back out in the woods again in the morning . Hoping for one more shot at my big bruin buck . If not , Ill be back in my tree stand archery hunting by the weekend .

Doe down …

I took a doe this morning at 95 yards . Not a bad shot I don’t think with a brush gun .

If you practice with what you are going to shoot / hunt with , you will know your limitations .

I was criticized a few days ago for missing a buck with this same rifle @ 120 yards . I know I am comfortable shooting this gun out to 160 yards . I want to stress to people , in the heat of the moment ‘Do Not Try to Test Your Limits’ . You know what you are comfortable shooting , stick with it . I should have got my buck at 120 , however , after looking around , I realized I clipped a good sized branch on the way to my target . That’s hunting …

I seen a lot of deer moving this morning . Had 3 bucks come in and pass by . Nothing with a clear shot lane . Maybe tomorrow will be better .

I got a chance to take ‘Little E’ out in the woods with me this morning for awhile . Wish we could have stayed longer but we have a busy schedule today . We did see a lot of deer , just nothing with a clear shot . Seen at least 4 shooter doe’s , a couple of fawns , and another good doe being chased by a buck .

Little E’ got to try his hand at operating the camera today . He did pretty good and had fun at the same time . He wants to be part of everything his daddy does , and I love it .

Hopefully tomorrow Ill get a chance at a good shot . Depends on the weather as we have rain and storms moving in overnight .

Were at the house now having breakfast . then were off to help build the Boy Scout’s float for the Christmas parade . Tonight the kids will walk the parade with the Boy Scout troop and the Girl Scout troop . Should be a fun evening for the whole family .

Ive got some new embroidered hats and beanies coming in for the store soon . As soon as I get them I will post pictures . Ive also got some more decals coming in , for the store and for the Spur Chaser Racing Teams buggy .

Afternoon everyone , I just got in from the woods a bit ago .

I didn’t have any luck today . Didn’t even see a deer .

We had some snow flurries yesterday evening with temps falling to 26 degrees by morning .

Im on a time crunch now . Our rifle season ends here on Tuesday the 22nd .

I went out early this morning with a rather strong breeze and cool temps , 41 to be exact . Had deer moving before first light and on a steady pattern until the woods awakened to a blast from my 30-30 at around 7:15 . I had a large almost chocolate color tined 10 point chase a doe onto my hillside . From the moment I saw him until I went to investigate I was in trembles .

Turns out I missed , at least I can admit it and be happy knowing it was a clean miss . I found the point of impact of my round , 2 actually . My round hit a tree branch on its way to its mark and struck the ground and a rock high and right .

There is no point in going over all the ‘what if’s’ as apposed to thinking about ‘what’s next’ …

I've got some business to tend to before the end of the week , as well as some family time before hitting the woods again . Ill be back on the hillside Saturday morning hoping and looking again for Mr. Hershey …

Today was day 5 of the Missouri rifle deer season . Season runs until the 22nd .

In my mind , at least I had the chance to enjoy the sunrise in the woods , as well as be in the presence of such a secretively smart animal . He looked a lot like the bruin that eluded me this time last year with only one brief sighting when my father and myself were hunting together . This will make two sightings in as many years , and NO trail cam pic’s of him . I have got other deer on camera and that I have seen that I have been hunting since the beginning of our archery season in September . To miss the one shot I had at this animal , hurts . However the chase will continue as to see who will outsmart who .

Afternoon all , hope your day is going well . I spent the morning out in the woods today . Had a front move in yesterday afternoon bringing with it a little rain and cooler temps . The temperature is really going to drop over the next few nights . I only seen a few deer this morning . Only a couple shooter doe’s . Im still waiting on my buck to show himself . I reactivated my mock scrapes this morning , as well as did a little scouting . I did find a fresh rub line located between my mock scrapes and the travel lane the deer are using . Now if I can just catch him in the act .

Working on new details for an out of state hunt most likely in January . These are details your not going to want to miss .

What a race , ‘Congrat’s’ goes out to Kasey Kahne for hangin in there and pulling off the win at Phoenix during yesterdays Sprint Cup race .

There is only one race left for the season and the championship , Homestead . Tony Stewart is still trailing Carl Edwards by a mere 3 points . Should prove to be a great race in Florida next weekend .

I was out on the property this morning before the sun came up . Got some good footage of turkeys on roost not far from my blind set . Also had a chance to get some video of Rockie the Raccoon roaming around a bit .

I only seen one shooter doe this morning and she was on a dead trot determined to get to her destination .

The wind is still strong with warmer temps . We have a front moving in overnight bringing rain and cooler temps for the rest of the week . Should prove to be interesting for the rest of the week in the woods .

Sunday afternoon ,

Family , friends and bbq . The weather has warmed up , and we still have the winds . A good day to relax and enjoy the company .

Spent the morning out on the property for the second day of rifle deer season here in Missouri . I did see a total of 6 deer today . 4 shooter doe’s and 2 young . I took a shot at one of the doe’s , and missed . Go figure , kinda like a replay of last year … lol .

No worries , still waiting on Mr. Big Tine to make his appearance .

Weather man is calling for cloudy sky’s tomorrow and pushed the rain back until Tuesday . Ill be in the woods again tomorrow morning glassing for any movement . Tuesday I hope for a bit of rain so I can get out and do some spot/stalk .

I don’t have any pic’s or good news to post in regards to opening day today of our rifle season . The deer just weren't moving . The best I can figure is a combination of the moon phase , and the high wind gusts we had today . Which I had sort of figured before hand , but at least wanted to get into the woods and give it a try . Hopefully in the next day or two things will pick up . We have another front coming in tomorrow evening bringing rain in our direction for Monday .

Good morning and Happy Veteran’s Day .

A big ‘Thank you’ to all our veterans , past/present , as well as all active duty military personnel . Let us not forget those serving abroad or those that have paid the ultimate price and fallin in the line of duty .

I am proud and honored to say that my wife is currently serving on active duty , as well , I am a disabled veteran . I wouldn’t have it any other way .

Make a difference in a veterans or troops day today , a simple pat on the back , a handshake , a ‘Thank you’ .

Opening day of rifle season here in Missouri tomorrow . ‘Good luck’ to those taking to the woods . PLEASE , practice hunter safety . Use your safety harness while in your stand , be assured of what is beyond what your shooting at , practice safe gun handling techniques . Safety is not a given , it is up to each and every one of us , accidents are preventable .

Congratulations goes out to Jason Aldean , He managed to win the award for Album of the Year last night during the 45th annual CMA awards . Among some of the other newcomer up-n-coming starts granted awards were Taylor swift and The Band Perry . Country music is starting to see a lot of new stars and talent sweep there way across the board .

The weather is cool out , with a light frost here this morning . The sky was clear and the moon is full tonight .

 

Movement at night has been on the rise at the property . That does not stop anyone from being excited about this weeks opener . Even though our deer season has been open since September the 15th , a lot of people don’t take advantage of the early archery season .

If you are one of those , and your just not wanting the ‘hassle’ so to say , or the expense of setting up a new bow , it is pretty easy to pick up a good set-up used for beginner archery . Check your state and local laws as well . Some states are opting into letting people hunt with cross bows during the archery season . That will give you a whole new season to hunt and a lot of fun . Most people who prefer to gun hunt , enjoy the feel and challenge of hunting with a cross bow . Complete packages are available at most outdoors retailers and are fairly inexpensive for a beginner setup .

2 days and a wake up …

That’s opening day of rifle deer season here in Missouri .

I spent some time earlier today looking for sign and pulling the camera . I wanted to do some last minute scouting before I leave it alone . I also wanted to check my stand while I was there .

The rain has finally departed and the cold front pushed in . Cooler temps the next few nights hanging around the freezing mark . The full moon is tomorrow night . We’ll have to wait and see how it all affects opening day deer movement .

How about them LSU Tigers … with everything goin on over the weekend and travel home , I forgot to express my enthusiasm for there win over Alabama on Saturday . #1 in the nation , and I don’t foresee that to change any time soon .

The weather is cooler and damp here . We had rain showers throughout the morning yesterday , and more this morning . They say storms by mid afternoon with some possible strong to severe . Cooler temps are pushing in with about a 20 degree temp change by tomorrow morning . The cooler temps will stick around till the end of the week when they slowly begin to rise . Our next chance of rain after today isn't until Sunday .

We also have the full moon fast approaching as well . I do believe it is slated for Thursday . All these weather changes and moon phases were experiencing this week , should definitely have the deer on there feet and moving by this weekends opener . We should also start to see the rut getting into full swing soon .

Wanted all to know I arrived at home safe and sound just a little while ago . We finished the Texas job early this morning and I headed north to return home to the family .

Tomorrow I will clarify all my details and begin getting my gear together for our rifle season opener on the 12th . Our rifle deer season is only 10 days long . That will allow me plenty of time to hunt , as well as get my boy out as well . I am still working on the details , but it looks like I will be in Oklahoma for there rifle deer season sometime around Thanksgiving week .

Good evening all and Happy Friday . We made it through the work week , I still have to work the weekend though . Things are busy here in south Texas .

I spent yesterday evening down on Galveston Island for the first night of the annual Biker Rally . Had a good time and seen some nice machines .

Tomorrow is opening day of youth rifle season for deer in Missouri . I was planning on letting my son hunt , however with me at work , he will have to wait till the regular rifle season to hunt . No big upset , as long as we get to hunt together .

I am in Texas working . I had some training this morning at the Houston Area Safety Council , then it was off to work . This should be a short job , week or so . Not sure what is to follow . I do know I have some hunting to do somewhere … lol

I have been extremely busy the last few days running errands and tending to last minute business . Today is no different . I have my photo shoot this morning and some final proofs to read in regards to the press release fast approaching .

Ill be in south Texas for a couple weeks worth of work shortly . After that , its back on the fast track for hunting .

Afternoon all ,

Not a lot goin on here today . Been busy doin some runnin’ around and follow ups .

All else is well here as I plan to return to work for a couple weeks . Ill be in south Texas around the Houston area for a bit . Don’t worry , before I head out of town I have a photo shoot . Ill try to post a couple pic’s before we make the press release .

Ill be swapp’n the card on the cam before I leave . the deer are really starting to move now . Its too bad I have to go to work ….

The winds of change are upon us ,

As winter proves to be fast approaching across parts of the U.S. , the weather pattern here in the Midwest has been less than favorable for some time now . With blistering dry heat waves , to cooler temps producing frost and scattered showers amidst .

One thing is evident in a casual drive across the country side , Fall is here and winter is on its way . The colors are showing in the trees and you can feel it in the wind .

I am making plans to head south for a couple weeks worth of work in the Houston , Texas area . I am hoping to try and squeeze in a hunt of some sort while I am down south . I have also been working on a rifle rut whitetail hunt in Oklahoma for late November .

Ill be on the road running errands tomorrow for the spur Chaser venture . Last minute details are being taken care of through Friday . Photo shoot is scheduled for Saturday on location with the press release to follow November 1st .

Ill keep details coming as I can .

‘Donuts with Dads’ , that’s where I've been this morning . The school had a function for students and there dads . I spent the morning with my two oldest eating donuts and enjoying each others company at the school .

I'm back home now working on the last minute details for a press release . As well , I've got a photo shoot Saturday morning . It all is in the same interest so I wont be able to post pictures too soon . The press release is scheduled for November the 1st . However , I may slip and post one or two by ‘accident’ .

With the fall out of my early season hunting plans , I am trying to work out a scheduled trip west for later this fall . Nothing has been set in stone as of yet . However , I can tell you that it will be a fabulous trip if the dates all work out . It will carry me from Missouri to 2 other western states in search of 4 different game species . Be looking for details as I will post them as I get confirmation .

The new work week began today . I am busy wrapping up last minute details for one of the upcoming ventures of the Spur Chaser crew . Sure to be full of fun and excitement . Pictures will be added and changes made to the website / blog to follow .

Ill be making a trip to the property this week . I need to check the camera and remove / relocate some of my gear . I'm starting to get ready for our rifle season here in Missouri which begins November the 12th .

Ill be heading to south Texas for a week or so here in the near future . Just a short trip for work . Who knows , maybe Ill get a surprise hog hunt in while I'm there .

No luck for me and my son as far as the deer hunting went . We did have a good time with the camp out though .

We returned home early today to store our gear and relax a bit .

Today were watching the Nascar race at Talladega . Spending time with the family .

Good morning all , I just got in from the woods . I spent several hours out this morning hunting . Seen 7 deer total , only 5 good shooter doe’s , however they weren't within bow range . So goes it , Better luck next time . At least now I know they are moving at a regular time again instead of in the middle of the night .

I returned home earlier than normal , as I've got plans today . I'm packing up some camping gear , and taking my son back out with me this afternoon . We will set up camp on the property and spend the night . That will give us a chance to spend some time together on an afternoon hunt out of the blind , and a morning hunt as well .

He is getting anxious to get in the woods and do a little hunting himself . Youth rifle season should be a lot of fun for him and me both .

The week is closing fast and the weekend is about to begin .

We experienced our first frost of the season last night , As temps dropped into the high 20’s early this morning . We are looking for a warm front to push through over the next few days before our temperatures are slated to slowly fall and rain possibilities increase by mid next week . This could be our fall/summers last hoorah .

 

I am looking forward to getting back in to my favorite Gorilla tree stand this weekend . Ill be hunting out of my Gorilla Greyback Climber . We still have several weeks before our rifle season begins here in the Heartlands , so I will be hunting with my custom recurve .

Me and my youngest spent the morning walking around out on the property . Checking for tracks and sign . I pulled a card while we were there to get some new pic’s .

He’s nothing special , just another smaller buck on the property . The deer movement is still mainly at night . However , I do have a few pic’s and am starting to see more throughout the day .

We woke up to a chilly 34 degrees this morning . Fall is upon us and showing its force .

I am hoping to be in the woods this afternoon / evening . With these cooler temps and the cooler , damper weather pattern tracking through , I am hoping for better deer movement . While on the property , Ill retrieve a camera media card and should have some new pics tomorrow for posting .

Hopefully , Id like to have a descent deer down with some pics of that for yah as well as descent video .

I believe I have made my mind up on a new smart phone …

The new Motorola Razr , it will be available for preorder later this month . I have read about all I can about it to date . I will do some more comparisons before its release date to ensure it is going to be what I want .

Howdy folks , Fall is definitely upon us .

The cooler temps have arrived , as well as the rain . Its damp and dreary out today , would make for a perfect day in the woods . I'm giving the property a break for awhile , as not to over pressure it . I'm planning on a successful youth hunt for my son .

I will be hunting one or two evenings this week , as well as a morning or two this coming weekend . I am hoping with the cooler temps and foul weather , the deer will begin to move a bit more . We are starting to get close to the pre-rut time of year here in the Ozarks .

The racing industry was dealt a hard blow yesterday , with the passing of one of there own . Indy Car Driver Dan Wheldon passed away yesterday in a horrific multi car crash in Las Vegas . Leaving two other drivers hospitalized overnight . Dan was an Icon in his sport and a multi Indianapolis 500 winner . He will be missed by many a race drivers and fans alike .

R.I.P. … Dan Wheldon

Cooler temps are moving into the Ozarks this week as we plan for our first freeze . Lows expected in the 30’s and highs to remain in the mid 50’s by the middle of the week . Next weekend should prove to be very good for those taking to the woods . These cooler temps should stir up the deer a bit .

First off ,

‘Congratulations’ to Matt Kenseth for his win in the Bank Of America 500 yesterday at Charlotte Motor Speedway . He put up a good battle and out performed some great drivers . Haven't seen where the point standings are now in the Race for the Chase . However I know its getting pretty close as we wind down the final races .

I haven't quite decided yet , however I think my choice in a new phone is going to be the Samsung Galaxy S II . As soon as I get it ordered up and delivered , I will start posting video updates on my YouTube page . Ill keep everyone posted to that as it advances .

Ill be keeping an eye on the trail cam this week as the weather turns cooler and a cold front approaches . were expecting rain mid week with cooler temps . Hopefully with this moon phase about over , and the weather change , we’ll start to see a little more deer movement throughout the day . I know my son is getting excited for youth rifle season . This will be his first year behind the gun .

Wow , what a morning ,

It cooled off over night and we are down in the low 40’s , nice . This cold snap and the current weather pattern should get the deer moving . ‘Good luck’ to those that did make it out or are planning on going .

I'm not in the woods today , Ill return to the stand tomorrow . I figured my wife would like the extra help this morning at home . We had a total of 9 little girls here for a sleep over yesterday for my daughters B-day . I know they outlasted me last night . I could still hear them laughing / giggling as I drifted off to sleep . Ah to be young again … lol

And for some big news , Courtney Stodden is back on Facebook … lol . I seen this headlines on my homepage and had to laugh . I'm sure our economy and overseas conflicts will suddenly take care of themselves .

I'm still working out details for a few ventures going on now . Ill post the info just as soon as I can . Ive got several things going on at once and am just waiting for the OK and final details on any one of them to post the info .

Happy Birthday!!!

Today is my oldest daughters birthday . She is having some friends over for a celebration party and sleep over tonight . We are getting everything ready for her now while she is in school . My wife took a Birthday Cookie cake to her class at the school this morning so they could celebrate there as well .

I took advantage of the morning to go hang out in my stand . No movement at all . Didn’t see 1 deer . I did see a lot of fresh sign though . With the recent rains , the change in the weather pattern and the full moon that just passed , it is extremely hard to try and pattern the deer . It doesn’t help that our acorns are dropping too . The deer really have no reason to travel a lot right now .

I took advantage of my time in the woods and scoped out a new tree to place my climber for rifle week . I should be able to get high enough in the tree to have a view of both hill sides and the trail running down off the ridgeline . All are high traffic areas for deer on my property to and from bedding areas .

after speaking with friends , I believe we are looking at a November 1st release date for the upcoming news on the Spur Chaser venture .

I'm just hangin out at the house today workin on details for the upcoming news/press release . I'm tell’n yah , I'm excited .

This is a big marketing move for the Spur Chaser crew . It is going to unite the outdoors industry folks with a whole new venue as well as add to the exposure of the Spur Chaser brand/logo/fan base .

I will be makin a trip to the property in the next day or two to check on sign and pull cards from cam’s . Ill hopefully have some new pic’s from there to put up for your enjoyment .

I spent the morning out at the woods . I kicked up a deer on the way in this morning in the dark . The only other thing I saw today was a spike that walked by at about 40 yards . I was hoping for something better with the storm front moving in .

I seen a nice documentary done by Dr. Grant Woods this morning on Bass Pro’s King of Bucks television show . Mr. Woods is a great man who I am honored to consider a friend . Not such a good start to the morning today .

I got up early and headed out to sit one of my tree stands on the property . when I arrived it was still dark thirty as I slipped down the lane and back into the woods . As I approached the creek bed , I heard a deer blow , then another , and then another . Deer scattered everywhere as I happened upon them in the dark . Needless to say , I never made it to my stand . After a few minutes and the woods started to settle , I quietly eased back out the way I came and headed for the house . I didn’t want to disturb the deer anymore . Its best just to leave them be . Ill try again this afternoon .

I'm getting ready to head out to the local Wal-Mart for the Bone Collector event . Ill be working the event on behalf of Mossy Oak . I met a lot of nice people yesterday evening while I was there .

I've been up for the last hour or so taking care of last minute details for the weekend . It seems like I didn’t have enough time in the week to get everything done .

Ill be working the Bone Collector event at a local Wal-Mart here in Ozark , Missouri this weekend . Sure to be a good time with a paintball shooters booth and BB guns as well . Here’s a recent pic off the trail cam . I've got others to post soon . He’s got bone but kind of hard to tell how much . Looks to be a good 6-8 point buck . Definitely a shooter .

The weekend is almost upon us and there is still a lot of work left to be done .

I met with the trailer manufacturers yesterday to discuss details on a custom enclosed trailer . The trailer will be used to haul my hunting / fishing / camping gear in as I travel . I'm not looking for anything too big , just big enough to haul some gear to allow for more room in the vehicle for other hunters .

I should have a detailed description from them in the next couple days as to what they think will suit my needs / wants / concerns .

I am working on getting back out to the property in the next day to check the trail cams , mineral sites , etc. . I plan on working on at least one if not two new lean to blinds for the upcoming rifle season .

I am hunting with a friend on Monday at the property so it should be a nice weekend .

My best to everyone for getting the new week underway . Before you know it the weekend will be upon us again .

I would like to say ‘Congrat’s’ to my cousin Shad up in Illinois . He was successful in thinning out the doe population over opening weekend . He managed to add a little extra groceries to the freezer .

Its good to see people actually practicing proper deer population management , and not just trophy hunting . I know I have done my fair share over the years . And will continue to , as I try to keep my resident deer herd in checks and balances on my property .

I'm still working out details for a couple upcoming hunts this fall in the near future . As well a couple long range plans are being worked on for after the start of the new year . Be sure to keep an eye out for updates .

I'm working with a local trailer dealer for an enclosed trailer to haul my gear in . I have to meet with them again to assure the details are correct for the custom order trailer . It will be 4 – 6 weeks before it arrives . Be looking for updates on the status of it as time passes as well . Ill be sure to post pics of the ‘Before’ and ‘After’ it gets decked out in Spur Chaser form .

Howdy Folks ,

I hope all are having an enjoyable weekend . For those that took to the woods , it should have been a productive time . The weather certainly cooperated in the midwest and south with a cold front pushing through the last couple days . The deer around my area have pretty much went nocturnal for awhile . I expect that to turn around in the next couple weeks with the full moon approaching .

I hope to return to the woods in search of filling an archery deer tag within the next week . My recurve is itching to let an arrow fly .

I have been working on schedule plans . I have to get a photo shoot done SOON as I have a few portfolios to put together for potential sponsors .

Contract talks are progressing , but slowly , as far as airtime goes for Spur Chaser TV . Coming to a satellite channel by the third quarter of 2012 .

Also , the old website , www.moprostaff.com , has had some changes made to it recently . With more to come soon .

Plans are in the works for some very high exposure hunts coming later this winter . Ill post info and updates as available .

Good morning all and Happy Hunting season ,

today ( October the 1st ) has always marked the fall archery hunting season across the country . Although a lot of states have already been legally hunting for several weeks now , there is just something about the October the 1st date .

Today , thousands of hunters take to the woods in search of elk , deer , antelope , and other species for personal trophies as well as the harvest of the meat . Memories will be made with fathers , sons , mothers , daughters , aunts and uncles . Generations mature in the woods together as a heightened right of passage , so to speak , is passed on from generation to generation .

I wish everyone the best of luck this season . Remember , the trophy is in your eye , you cant eat bone , I don’t care how long you marinate it . The experience itself is what memories are made of .

Change of venue …

Do to unforeseen scheduling conflicts , there will be NO trip to Oklahoma this weekend . I will have to put off my travel plans for a week or two . Hopefully Ill be able to make it over before the end of archery season to try and take my antelope . If not , I for sure will make it over that way for a couple days worth of hog hunting .

All else is well here , and I am makin’ plans to be in the woods for next week .

Afternoon ,

All is well here to date . I spent the morning on the property hanging a trail cam , checking mineral sites , and packing up my Gorilla blind .

I am sorting through my gear the next couple days as I prepare for a trip west .

I will be camping in northwestern New Mexico as I hunt in the Oklahoma panhandle for my archery antelope . Upon leaving there , I will be heading east and stopping for a day or two of hog hunting ( both archery and rifle - fair chase ). Then and only then will I be returning home . When I return home to Missouri I will be back in my favorite tree chasing whitetail , archery style .

Hope all is well with everyone as a lot of folks are planning for there season opener this weekend.

Well we managed to make it through the weekend as well as the beginning of a new week . We are quickly knocking on the door of a new month . October , brings a lot of excitement across the country . As the colors in the tree’s start to change , the last of the big game hunting seasons open across the country .

I have been busy the last week or so finishing my hunting / travel plans . I have become a big fan of Google , Mapquest , and my GPS … lol .

I have had to make a few changes here and there but for the most part I think I am in order .

Hopefully Ill get a chance to see some of you as I travel across the country .

‘Congrat’s’ to Tony Stewart and the crew at Stewart Haas Racing …

They pulled off another win today in Nascar for two in a row in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship . A good solid start for the Team .

All is well here in our household . I spent the morning on the property hunting with a friend . The deer were moving before daybreak and we never seen anything later in the morning . A lot of fresh sign though . Our rifle season is looking to be another good one as far as the deer herd goes .

If the weather cooperates , it’ll be a great fall rifle season for my hunting guests .
