Spring is in the air , It seems like the weather has takin’ a turn for the better across the country. With a nation wide thaw takin’ ahold of the woods, now is the time to get ready for spring plantin’. You should have had a chance to be out shed hunting already, if not , get to it.

While in the woods , take a look around and try to find those ideal spot for stand placement. Be sure to pay close attention to travel lanes, bedding areas, water sources, existing food. Think of where you seen the concentration of deer movement this past season. Then weigh in your mind the idea of manipulating there movement. What can you offer the deer that they don’t have, something to peak there interest. It may be as simple as a mineral block ( now is a good time to add one to your arsenal. Between lactating does and vitamin starved bucks ) added to your hunting land. Helping does produce milk and bucks to regain vitamins/minerals needed for future antler growth. Even a simple plot of clover, alfalfa, or brassica. There are a lot of individual seed packs available on the shelves. As well as many pre mixed assortments. Many of which you don’t need hundreds of acres or thousands of dollars worth of equipment. A lot of times the best plot you can plant you can accomplish with nothing more then a rake and some fertilizer. A lot of todays seeds simply just need to be spread on open ground. Put a little effort into raking them in the ground a bit and your done.

Try to put a mineral block or spot out for every 25 acres you are trying to manage. Also try to include something different for the herd to eat. Kind of like a treat for them.

With all that in mind, you should see an increase in herd health over a couple years as well as better antler growth. Along with a chance to improve your odds in the woods this season. Good luck and happy hunting….
